NBC broadcast of the 1972 Orange Bowl between Alabama and Nebraska gave us the greatest starting line up photos ever

Well, I don’t know. Maybe there are better ones out there. But I haven’t seen them. And just like the game, it was all Nebraska.

Even Bama didn’t have near enough to take down a team of players confident enough to go topless (Jim Anderson, Bill Kosch), to lounge at the pool (Keith Wortman), to wear chess boards as shirts (John Adkins) for the NBC cameras. 38-6. That’s rough. (Don’t tell anyone, but Bear Bryant just wasn’t that good in bowls. It’s weird.)

National champs. That was a dang good team. Only close game was against Oklahoma.

Oklahoma was also good.
