You see it in posters, media guides, etc. But rarely does a program feature a photo that so literally adheres to a theme. Or, you know, feature a theme at all. And this one is so fly — Tony Robinson handing a football to beautiful Tennessee cheerleader in the cockpit of some sort of military plane. “Volunteers mount strong air attack.” Brilliant.
Robinson and the Vols crushed a Bo Jackson-led Auburn’s national title dreams so thoroughly in Neyland Stadium on Sept. 25, 1985 i(read Rick Reilly’s write up here— Auburn fans still hate him for it) Sports Illustrated deemed him worthy of its next issue’s cover: “Tony Robinson buries Auburn.” (Where’s the shovel?)
